At the beginning of 2021, the National Film Archive of Iceland received recognition from the Museum Council and subsequently applied for a prestigious research grant for archival research from 2021 to 2026. Gunnar Tómas Kristófersson, a PhD candidate, was hired to research the collection. The grants are specifically allocated for research on Iceland’s first filmmaker, Kjartan Ó. Bjarnason, Vigfús Sigurgeirsson, and Ósvaldur Knudsen. In 2025, the focus is on Ósvaldur Knudsen.
